A blessing of the Roman Church, in the basic sense is the rite of consisting of prayers and a ceremony performed in the authority and name of the Church. This is done by a qualified minister or priest, through which things and persons are sanctified and dedicated to Divine service or by which certain marks of Divine favour. The Catholic Church has sacramentals or sacred signs which signify effects, that are especially spiritual in origin, which are obtained through the intercession of the Church. These sacraments in life are holy.
The sign of he cross is made by touching the hand in sequential way to the forhead first, to the lower chest or stomach second, and to both sides of the shoulders third. This means the Father (God), the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Ghost (Spirit). This represents the Holy Trinity of God.
