Figure ground perception and relationship can come in various forms. The definitions and examples can be many.  The way that figure ground works it's the relationship between the background or ground  and subject or object that people are viewing. How to make a figure ground map can be an area of enrichment study in this field.

The correct definition of figure ground perception is or refers to the tendency of a visual composite system to make a scene that people are looking at and all other things in the background seem formed.
The foreground figure is when people are looking at something and are able to separate the background, ground, foreground, and figure.

The way that people can separate figure and ground is through tonal contrast. For example if you are looking at a portrait with a cluttered background there is no obvious wall behind it or distinct border between the subject and the man.

With foreground figure the main subject that is focused on is not as obvious.
